ART TAIPEI 2026: Where Art, Technology and the City Enter a New “Symbiosis”

Returning for its 33rd edition, ART TAIPEI brings together 127 galleries from Taiwan and around the world, while Taipei Art Week extends the energy of contemporary art across the capital.
From 30 October to 2 November 2026, ART TAIPEI returns to Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 1 with “Symbiosis” as its central theme. Organised by the Taiwan Art Gallery Association, the fair will welcome 127 selected galleries—including 66 from Taiwan and 61 international exhibitors—with VIP previews taking place on 29 and 30 October.
Established in 1992, ART TAIPEI is one of the Asia-Pacific region’s longest-running international art fairs and one of the few major fairs initiated and organised by a gallery association. Over more than three decades, it has become an important meeting point for galleries, artists, collectors and cultural professionals, while reflecting the continued development of Taiwan’s art market and its connections with the wider international art world.
A Strong Regional and International Presence
The 2026 edition brings together a notable selection of leading Taiwanese galleries, including Tina Keng Gallery, Liang Gallery, Asia Art Center, Bluerider ART, Soka Art, YI YUN ART and YIRI ARTS. Collectively, their presentations reflect the depth of Taiwan’s gallery landscape, its established curatorial practices and the energy of its contemporary market.
The international programme includes Perrotin, which was founded in Paris and now operates across a global network, alongside Singapore’s Richard Koh Fine Art, one of Southeast Asia’s prominent contemporary art galleries.
Kaikai Kiki Gallery, founded by Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, also returns to ART TAIPEI after several years. Its participation further reinforces Taipei’s position as a platform for artistic exchange between Taiwan, Japan and the wider region.
Korean participation has expanded significantly this year, with 25 exhibitors led by major galleries including Gana Art and GALLERY BATON—another indication of Taipei’s growing importance within the Asian contemporary art landscape.

“Symbiosis”: Rethinking the Relationship Between Art and Technology
The theme of ART TAIPEI 2026, “Symbiosis,” responds to a world increasingly shaped by technological acceleration, high-tech infrastructure and the relentless pace of contemporary life.
Rather than presenting humanity and technology as opposing forces, the fair considers how the two might coexist within an interconnected and mutually sustaining system. Across the fair, this idea takes shape through a wide range of artistic and curatorial approaches.
Some presentations, including Soka Art, encourage a slower and more sustained way of looking, offering contemplative spaces in which visitors can pause. Other artists turn towards the physical experience of making, examining the traces of labour through carving, moulding, layering and direct engagement with materials.
Elsewhere, galleries explore the relationship between Eastern ink traditions and Western abstraction, while some presentations move beyond the conventional commercial structure of an art fair by transforming their booths into temporary museums.
Together, these approaches position “Symbiosis” not simply as a technological theme, but as a wider inquiry into how people, materials, histories and systems coexist in contemporary culture.
A New Focus on Japanese Contemporary Art
Among this year’s highlights is “Turning the Frown Upside-Down,” a special section devoted to Japanese contemporary art.
Curated by Jeffrey Ian Rosen of Tokyo-based MISAKO & ROSEN, the section brings together leading Japanese galleries, independent art spaces and experimental art organisations. Its focus is the transformation of Japan’s art ecosystem since 2008, offering visitors an opportunity to consider how new structures, practices and communities have emerged over the past two decades.
Taipei Art Week: Art in Motion Across the City
Beyond the fairground, Taipei Art Week returns from 24 October to 2 November 2026 under the theme “Velocity.”
Using radiating lines as a visual expression of art’s energy and momentum, the programme will connect more than 80 galleries, museums and cultural institutions throughout Taipei. Exhibitions and thematic projects will extend across the city, allowing visitors to encounter art not only within established venues but also through the neighbourhoods and cultural spaces that shape Taipei’s identity.
More than a parallel programme, Taipei Art Week creates a wider urban context for ART TAIPEI. It invites the public to move through the city, participate in its cultural life and experience the relationships between artists, institutions, galleries and local communities.
International Forum: “Curating Now”
The 2026 Taipei Art Week International Forum will take place on 27 October at the B1 Auditorium of the Taipei Fine Arts Museum.
Presented under the theme “Curating Now: Responding to the Present,” the forum will examine the cross-regional networks influencing contemporary art today.
The discussion will be moderated by Eva Lin, curator of the 2025 Jogja Biennale, and will feature Russell Storer, Senior Curator and Head of Curatorial Affairs at M+, and Binna Choi, curator of the Korean Pavilion at the 2026 Venice Biennale.
Their participation brings together curatorial perspectives from across Asia and the international art world, deepening the academic and cultural dialogue surrounding this year’s fair.
An AI-Powered Guide to the Fair
For the first time, ART TAIPEI will introduce an AI-powered visitor assistant through its official website.
Accessible directly from mobile devices, the assistant will offer bilingual and multilingual guidance, information about participating galleries and artworks, recommended routes through the fair and an overview of on-site programmes.
The initiative is intended to make the fair more accessible while transforming the conventional experience of searching for information into a more immediate and interactive dialogue. It also adds a practical technological dimension to the theme of “Symbiosis,” connecting digital innovation with the physical experience of encountering art.
Claudia Chen, Chairperson of the Taiwan Art Gallery Association, describes art as one of the most perceptive ways of opening new aesthetic possibilities at a time of rapid technological change. Through the connection between ART TAIPEI’s “Symbiosis” and Taipei Art Week’s “Velocity,” the 2026 programme brings art, technology and the city into a shared conversation.
With its expanded international participation, renewed focus on Japanese contemporary art, citywide programming and new digital initiatives, ART TAIPEI 2026 presents Taipei not only as a destination for the regional art market, but as a place where new cultural relationships can take form.
