David Hockney's Largest Exhibition Ever: A Seven-Decade Journey of Art Innovation at Fondation Louis Vuitton

Gen de Art

In an unprecedented artistic event, Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris will present "David Hockney, 25: Do remember they can't cancel the Spring," the largest exhibition ever dedicated to one of the most influential artists of our time. Opening from April 9 to September 1, 2025, this extraordinary showcase will transform the entire building into a comprehensive retrospective of Hockney's seven-decade career.

The exhibition will feature over 400 works spanning from 1955 to 2025, offering visitors a rare opportunity to experience the full breadth of Hockney's creative evolution. From his early works in Bradford to his latest London creations, the exhibition demonstrates how this British master has continuously reinvented himself while maintaining his distinctive artistic vision.

What makes this exhibition particularly special is Hockney's personal involvement in its curation. Working alongside his partner and studio manager Jean-Pierre Gonçalves de Lima, the artist has carefully selected works that highlight his artistic journey, with a particular focus on his creative output from the past 25 years.

Visitors will journey through eleven carefully curated galleries, beginning with iconic works from the 1950s to 1970s, including the famous "A Bigger Splash" (1967) and "Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures)" (1972). The exhibition then moves through his exploration of nature in Yorkshire, his digital innovations in Normandy, and culminates with his most recent works in London.

A highlight of the exhibition is the innovative use of technology, showcasing Hockney's pioneering spirit in embracing new media. From iPad drawings to immersive video installations, the exhibition demonstrates how the artist has consistently pushed the boundaries of artistic expression. The Normandy section, featuring the complete "220 for 2020" series created entirely on iPad, particularly exemplifies this technological embrace.

The exhibition concludes with Hockney's most recent works, including pieces inspired by Edvard Munch and William Blake, created since his return to London in 2023. A special installation will transform one gallery into a dance hall, reflecting the artist's home environment, while another space will feature a new polyphonic creation incorporating his opera set designs.
