In Spring 2023, an artistic haven was born on the banks of Lake Toya, Hokkaido, known as "tou;" . Named after the Ainu word that speaks of love for the lake and the surrounding environment, tou; is hosting its inaugural exhibition, "Across the Skate-Border," featuring a skateboard collection realized through a collaboration between renowned artist Yoshitomo Nara and Belgian outfit, THE SKATEROOM.
This exhibition presents the unique perspectives of the owner and artist Nara, deeply rooted in skateboard culture. Nara's distinctive artwork imprinted on skateboard decks is on display. These decks are not ordinary; they are special pieces where art painted by Nara is printed and further embellished with his hand-drawn accents.

「ふらっと奈良さんと」's project - Collaborative creation with Yoshitomo Nara and children
Nara describes his artwork on the skate decks as something akin to "quality record sleeves, posters, or book covers that one might decorate with," rather than traditional art pieces. His work reflects the unique essence of the time deeply intertwined with street culture, not just sports or leisure, due to the skateboarding boom of the 1990s.
