Convergent Lines — A Dialogue of Material and Form at L’Appartement Gallery, Geneva

18 September – 19 December 2025

In collaboration with Objects with Narratives

This autumn, L’Appartement Gallery presents Convergent Lines, a compelling group exhibition uniting four international creators—Mariana Oushiro, Marius Ritiu, Jojo Corväiá, and Maarten Vrolijk—whose practices dissolve the boundaries between design, visual art, and sculpture. Through a shared reverence for materials, process, and architectural influence, the exhibition invites visitors into a world where form and texture become a common language.

Spanning the gallery’s three distinct rooms, Convergent Lines traces the interplay between the monumental and the intimate, the functional and the purely aesthetic, the grounded and the gestural. Each space offers a unique encounter:

Room One – Grounded Monumentality

Romanian-born Marius Ritiu (b. 1984, based in Antwerp, Belgium) anchors the first room with his monumental sculptures and functional furniture. Architectural in scale and richly textured, his works assert presence and mass, transforming the space into a dialogue between structure and material.

Room Two – The Tactile and Meditative

In the second room, Venezuelan artist Jojo Corväiá (b. 1970, based in Berlin, Germany) presents hand-molded ceramics that sit like quiet relics. Their raw, earthen surfaces bear the imprint of the maker’s touch, offering a direct, meditative connection to the human hand and the clay’s organic origins.

Room Three – Between Sculpture and Utility

Dutch designer Maarten Vrolijk (b. 1966, based in Amsterdam) brings a refined sense of balance to the third room. His delicate lamps and vessels—poised between sculpture and functional object—invite close inspection, blurring the lines between art and everyday life.

A Connecting Pulse – Mariana Oushiro’s Canvases

Threaded throughout the gallery, Brazilian artist Mariana Oushiro (b. 1992, based in New York) creates a vibrant counterpoint. Her gestural yet architecturally precise paintings infuse movement, emotion, and rhythm into the exhibition. Working directly on canvas with her entire body, Oushiro crafts layered compositions where geometric lines dissolve into fluid gestures, evoking a visual choreography that binds the static forms of sculpture and design to an unseen, dynamic energy.

An Exhibition About Convergence

Convergent Lines invites viewers to consider how divergent practices—across mediums, scales, and intentions—can converge through material exploration. The exhibition becomes a choreography of contrasts: weight and lightness, permanence and flux, structure and spontaneity.

Founded by Thea Montauti d’Harcourt Lyginos, L’Appartement Gallery is dedicated to cultivating a vibrant community of seasoned collectors and new audiences alike, while invigorating Geneva’s art scene. Nestled in the intimate setting of a historic building, the gallery serves as a stage for cross-disciplinary dialogues and collaborations with artists, international galleries, and independent curators.

From September to December 2025, Convergent Lines offers Geneva an immersive exploration of artistic intersections—an experience that is as tactile as it is thought-provoking.
